that provides literacy-supporting content for educators, parents,

counselors, librarians, and community leaders to use with literacy

learners.  Articles and profiles highlight best practices in literacy

instruction.  Instructional materials are leveled and aligned with

word study, cross-curricular content and standards.  Support

is also provided for bibliotherapy and parent involvement.

Hanover Tavern, Hanover, VA

Served as primary researcher, writer, creator, and

coordinator of educational field trip experience for

4th and 6th grade students, aligned with their grade-

level Standards of Learning (SOL) and focused on literacy.

Youth Empowerment Services, Richmond, VA

Creator of bibliotherapy program.  Trained staff and

supplied books and lessons to assist summer counselors

with clients addressing mental and emotional health issues.

Hilliard House and Flagler Home, Henrico, VA

Creator and coordinator of capacity-building literacy services for homeless

mothers and their children (ages 1-18) as they transition to greater self-sufficiency.  Conducted weekly read-alouds with the children, focusing on character and literacy growth.  Also held literacy training sessions with the parents, assisting them in being more effective first teachers and tutors for their

own children. Provided regular assessment and customized or age-appropriate lessons for each child and assisted them in owning books and developing a love for reading.

the Even Start Program, specializing in motivation

and specific strategies for parents to assist their pre-school children with

HAPPY Reading Programs, Richmond, VA

Creator, and coordinator of innovative literacy motivation, parent and community involvement program for schools; emphasis on community partnerships and research-based best practices to support academic success.  Select content-related children’s literature and prepare mini-lessons for volunteers, promoting higher level thinking skills.  Coordinate hundreds of volunteers, including their training and scheduling.  Foster a love for literacy and inspire families to spend more time with books.  Initially piloted by Virginia Governor Mark Warner’s PASS initiative.

Acted as an advisor, spokesperson and program coordinator

for literacy outreach initiative begun in conjunction with the

Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce and various

non-profit partner organizations.   The 3R Campaign promoted
